Uuugh, I'm like, maybe I should learn to write ladies that aren't Rationals? Which, OK. Maybe. I know I can do that. But it's the first person narrative I've been using that's really killing me, because I don't know if I'm a skilled enough writer yet to completely hide a smidgen of contempt when my lead does things I find contempt-worthy by nature. Which makes me sound like an asshole. But I'm well aware of how quickly stuff becomes glurge in my eyes.
Maybe I should just deal with writing mildly unsympathetic leads and hope that publishers will bite anyway. Cal Leandros is obnoxious as hell, after all. So is Sookie Stackhouse.
