SPN was hugely popular in Japan a few years back, up to getting one-season anime (which was actually even scarier than the original series bc Japan likes to take a horrible thing and make it even more disturbing.) The series' author/artist, Katou-sensei, was a fan and she's actually done some SPN fanart that's floated around her twitter account, including gender-flopped drawings of the main SPN cast.
